Baking Gingerbread Cookies...

Good evening! Hope everyone’s had a fab weekend?
So since it’s getting closer to that special day, I thought I would share something that will hopefully help you get into the spirit. Whack that Christmas playlist on repeat and be prepared to have your house smelling A M A Z I N G !
I found a few different recipes online and kind of mixed and matched from each one and also found I had to use more of certain things than the original recipe said. I made note as I went along, so lease find my amended version below :)
Ingredients
370g plain flour
175g unsalted butter
180g light brown sugar
1tsp bicarbonate of soda
3tsp ground ginger
2tsp ground cinnamon
1tsp ground allspice
1/2tsp ground nutmeg
1 large egg
5tbsp maple syrup

Sieve your flour into a mixing bowl with the butter, bicarbonate of soda, ground ginger; cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and mix together until you get a "breadcrumb" like texture.

Add the sugar...

In a separate bowl, lightly whisk the egg and maple syrup together and then pour this in with your dry mixture.

Mix until you get a "dough like" consistently and at this stage you can scoop it out of the bowl and knead for about a minute.

Wrap your dough in cling film and place it in the fridge for 10 minutes.

Before you move onto the next step, preheat your oven so it's ready to use once you have your biscuits cut out. Set it to 170°C (352°F) Gas 3.

Using your chosen cutters, (mine were purchased from Home Bargains and came in a pack of 3 for under 99p), cut out your men/women.

Place cookies onto a baking tray lined with baking paper and cook for 8-15 minutes. (Be sure to check your cookies from 8 minutes onwards, as depending on how strong your oven is, they will differ in time to cook. My first batch took approximately 11 minutes, while my second lot only took around 8).

Once you’ve taken them out of the oven, remove from the baking tray and place them onto a wire rack to cool down.

When completely cooled, you can now let your imagination run wild and decorate your little gingerbread men :)
If you plan to put them in a container, its best to leave them out for a few hours first. This’ll allow the icing sugar to dry and go hard.
And that’s it! The only thing left to do is to take a picture, send it to me on Twitter or Instagram at: @Hannah24310 and then enjoy their amazing, Christmassy flavour.
Thanks for reading guys, as always please do leave a comment to say you’ve popped by! Have a lovely evening and until Wednesday…

Love Hannah xx
