Hey
guys.
So
today's post is another DIY.
For
those of you who don't know, I love crafting/making things and that is one of
the main topics I wanted to start this blog for. So hopefully now the rush of
Christmas is all over and done with, I can focus on getting more of these sort
of posts written up :)
I
have customised a few compact mirrors in the past (will include a photo at the
end of the post), for friends/family and sold a couple online too. The only
problem is, whenever I make something I always put off making myself one
because I just end up telling myself "I don't have time"!
So
the other day I was sorting through my handbag and realised since I changed my
face powder, I now no longer have a mirror in my bag. My old pressed powder was a mirror combo compact you see.
Anyway,
I remembered I still had some of the blank ones in my crafting drawer, calling
out to be decorated. Decided I DID have
time as not only will it be handy for me, but thought it'll also make a good
post for you guys, (well I'm hoping so
anyway)!
Just
remember these make gorgeous little handmade gifts. Maybe an idea for any
birthdays you have coming up? So fun to make and made to suite your personal
requirements.
To start with you're going to need to
following materials:
· Compact mirror to
decorate
· Your choice in colour
of flat back rhinestone - the ones I used can be found cheaply on eBay. I used
two different sizes; 5mm approx 100 and 3mm approx 3 were used to fill in any
small gaps.
· A toothpick with a bit
of blu/white tack on one end - this allow you to pick up the rhinestones
easily. You can buy special pencils/tools but why waste money when this works
just as well?
· Gem-Tac glue - I
couldn't find my own bottle to add in the photo, I just had my small tube at
hand, but will add a photo for you to see what it looks like. A full bottle can
be brought on eBay for around £8 and lasts for ages.
Although if you didn't wish to spend that much some sellers sell them in small
tubes like my one in the photo for around £2
As
I have all of the supplies needed, I am happy to sell little DIY kits to anyone
who may be interested in giving it a go themselves. Just leave a comment below
if you'd like more info on buying a kit.
Okay
so now you have everything together we can get started...
Step 1)
Apply
a small amount of glue around the rim of your mirror. I find working your way
around the compact layer by layer, makes it easier and a lot neater rather than
going from left to right.
Step 2)
Using
the little pick up tool you made, start placing the rhinestones around the
mirror.
Step 3)
All
you need to do now, is continue following steps
1 & 2 to complete your mirror.
Now
you will have a cute compact mirror to pop in your handbag for those moments
you need to re-apply the lippy! As mentioned at the beginning, these do make
really cute handmade gifts and you
can just let your imagination run wild with the design.

Let me know if you'd like to see a more "complex" design like these ones.
Hannah this is amazing!!! I love making things but I'm the same - I always say oh I don't have time! This is such a simple idea though but love how you can make intricate designs!
ReplyDeleteI definitely love these type of posts and would love to see more DIY posts!

So it seems none of my replies worked on this post for some reason :( glad you like it Jodie thanks for the comment! Look forward to creating more DIY posts. Hannah xx
DeleteThem mirrors look like the one I got from Primark but they just have crappy plastic covers instead of rhinestones. I want one of yours instead!! Such a good post xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Abbie :) yeah the mirror blanks are like a metal material so a lot more sturdy than plastic ones. Hannah x
DeleteThese are amazing! Love it. Also love the batman one too! These would make awesome presents. You should set up an easy shop haha xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Beckie :) I never got on too great with etsty but I do sometimes go to craft markets to sell and sometimes on FB/eBay. Hannah x
DeleteOMG I am in love, also I may or may not have got too excited over the tiny triangle dish!! That is the cutest thing!! These are calling for a giveaway once you get to 1000 on BL? :) XX
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks Gemma :) it's called a "magic tray". It helps you get the crystals the right way up by giving it a little shake! You could have an idea there ;) although think that'll be a long wait ha! Hannah x
DeleteWow, well done, girlie! It looks so neat! I am amazed at how well you managed this DIY. I know exactly what you mean when it comes to time we never have it. Yet, we absolutely MUST make it sometimes to enjoy little things (and fun DIYs) ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, girlie!
