Sleek | Matte Me | Lipgloss Review | Honest Thoughts

So I'm late to the Sleek party. What's new, I always seem to be the last one anyway? The other month whilst in Boots, I picked up three Sleek, Matte Me glosses. Please tell me I'm not the only one who spends agrees trying to choose the perfect shade?

After seeing a lot of post's raving about how good the Sleek glosses were, I felt the need to own some of my own. I picked up the shades; Birthday Suit, Velvet Slipper and Fired Up.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Upon first impressions, there's not really anything negative I can say about the design, or the look. They come in a Sleek ;) looking packaging, with an attractive matte finish to the lid. Indeed, they do look very stylish and almost like a high end product. Something you would be proud to have in your makeup bag.

TRIED AND TESTED
Over the course of a few days, I tested all three of my choices. Tested the actual colour of them on my lips, compared to how they looked in a bottle, the stay time and the general feel/wear and tear.

The first one I was most excited to try was Velvet Slipper. I loved the look of this shade and it's one I had seen others mention in their posts. When I first applied it, it was clear the actual colour once on the lips, is completely different to how it looks in the bottle. The bottle gives an impression of a more natural, pinky tone. Whereas on the lips, its actually a very purple, berry colour. Thankfully for me I love purple shades, so this wasn't an issue for me.

Next up was Birthday Suit. This is one that again I was pleased with how different it looked on the lips compared to the bottle. Looking at colour from the packaging, I was slightly worried it would be too pale for me. Yet once it was applied to my lips, the colour warmed up and looked like a nude shade.

Finally, I braved it and tested out the boldest shade of the three; Fired Up. While I don't usually wear red too often, I do sometimes like to make a statement if I'm feeling brave enough :) This was properly the only one that wasn't too different to the bottle colour. However, it did have a slightly more pinky undertone to it than I originally expected.

Okay so what I thought of the overall wear and tear factor and how the glosses felt? I hate them! There I've said it out loud. These are the three most drying glosses I've tried in a long time. I was both shocked and a little disappointed to be honest. After hearing such high praise, I was so surprised to find that they soon became one of my least favourite products.

Not only due to the fact the colours were not how they looked, but the fact that I wanted to get the product off of my lips as soon as possible! The gloss dried and cracked within 10 minutes. Fired Up I found was the worst. From the moment I applied, it instantly dried, started to crack and I just had to remove it. It was a mess. They dry so quickly, you don't really have enough time to apply it properly, without adding fresh product onto dried product.

Overall, I was really disappointed. If Boots would have allowed me to return these items, I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Have you used these glosses before? How did you find them? Surely I'm not the only one who disliked them so much?

Love Hannah xx

  2. The colours and shades look gorgeous! I've never tried Sleek before but have always heard good things. I like the names of the ones you picked, so cute and unique. So sorry they were so disappointing and drying though hun, what a shame :( Always frustrating when you're trying out some highly praised lip products for them to be horrible and not live up to their promise. It's so refreshing that you do so many honest reviews, you're the best girlie! <3

  6. Its such a shame isn't it. I have Vino Tinto and ADORE the colour. SO much so that I have tried on a few occasions to put up with the dry, cracked lip look but I just can't get over it. I know exactly what you mean :(
Have you tried the Bourjois Rouge Velvet? They are lovely on the lips and have a matte finish too :)

  7. Oh that's a shame Hannah! I didn't find them that bad but I know what you mean about them drying so quick, I find that they can become very messy very quickly! Yet to find the perfect liquid lip I think but from the two brands I've tried (lol) Sleek was the better of the two x
