Dinner at Gauchos..

Evening all. Any of you who follow my blog or Twitter account, will know on Wednesday I turned 25. My amazing boyfriend surprised me with the news he had booked us a table at Gauchos in Hampstead Heath.
Our table was booked for 5.30pm, (a little early I first thought, but then realised it meant it would be empty and we could take our time through each course). So when we arrived, we were actually the only people in the restaurant. As you walk through the doors, you can instantly tell you're not in your average dining place. With the lack of main overhead lights and the ones they do have, down low and candles on every table, faux fur on giant headboards behind the wall seating area, as well as on the back of all the chairs; the atmosphere straight away screams that it's not your average joe! I like low lighting in restaurants; feels a lot more comfortable and "homely" I guess. Maybe that's just me?

After browsing through their cocktail menu, I decided I would quiet like the Goji Sour. It was lovely and refreshing, with just the right amount of kick to it.
However, at £11.95 I was expecting slightly bigger glass especially when you think the top inch is just froth...
So since terry had been before, he insisted we got a selection of sausages as part of our starters. Bit of a strange choice, but I went with his judgement and we choose 4 out of the 6 they had to offer. We went with: Argentine chorizo, chicken and wild mushroom, beef and cranberry and pork and apple.

They were definitely worth a try. Nice big fat juicy sausages, with heaps of flavour. We also opted for some bread and a selection of meats. The bread was great, but being so keen to eat I forgot to photograph that part. (Sorry)!

For our main we obviously went for steak. We couldn't not since it's a place known for it! Before we ordered, our waiter brought us over a board with about 5 different cuts on it. Explained to us what each was, how it would taste best cooked and what kind of flavour to expect...

Terry went for one of their special cuts: Chateaubriand 450g and I opted for the Lomo fillet 400g. The steaks as you can imagine, were huge. Ideally maybe I should have gone with the 300g one, but I thought why the hell not go for the larger while we were there! We ordered three sides to share: mashed potato, rocket salad and flat mushrooms. The mash was lovely and creamy, salad dressed with balsamic vinegar was great and of course mushrooms cooked in garlic, thyme and white wine.

The steak was amazing! It certainly was the best steak I've ever had. I asked for mine to be cooked medium, as did Terry, but think mine could have been cooked a little bit more perhaps; but it wasn't so undercooked to put me off. It really was a lovely meal altogether.

All in all, we had a lovely evening and spent a few hours there. Would I go again? I would if the chance came up, but I personally wouldn't if I had the choice of a few places. Just because of the high price tags. It definitely was a great experience and if you get the chance, go for it!

I didn't have time to get Terry to take a full photo of me before we left, so these mirror selfies will have to do in afraid haha! As its not a dressy place, I didn't want to go overboard. So I kept it simple, yet stylish with black jeans, a black chiffon top, a floral blazer to add a pop of colour and some flats with an added bit of bling to dress it up slightly!

Thank you Terry for another great birthday :) and thank you to you guys for all my birthday wishes!

Love Hannah xx
